Red & White

For the Simon Says: Red White and/or Blue challenge I decided to stick with red & white since I saw this card that I wanted to use for my inspiration, using white instead of gold.


I used Distress Oxide Black Soot to blend around the edges, since it’s an ink that blends easily. I used the Gina K Holiday Tapestry stamp for the background, the label is from the Stampin’ Up Painted Labels die set, and the sentiment from the Colorado Crafts Big Hydrangea set.

It’s not as elegant, but did turn out pretty, didn’t it? I’m also going to enter it in the The House That Stamps Built Theme Challenge J3021 ~ Red, White and Blue and the Simon Says: Anything Goes challenge.

Watercolor Carnations

This is the first of 4 cards I made this weekend. I’m trying to build up my birthday card stash, so all 4 are birthday. I made this card for the  MFT Color Challenge 157 . I also plan on entering it in the Lavinia World Challenges #44 . The colors were Summer Splash, Tropical Teal, Kraft, and Milk Chocolate. I’ve been wanting to use my new Cretacolor Aqua Monolith watercolor pencils so I chose an Altenew Carnation stamp that I thought would look pretty in aqua & teal watercolor.  I stamped the carnations on watercolor paper using Ranger Distress Embossing Glaze in Walnut Stain. Once set, I began coloring using the pencils. As I colored each section, I used a water brush to activate the pencil color & move it around a bit.  I colored the carnations in shades of aqua & teal and the stems in a moss & grass green. Vellum Flowers

The colors for the  MFT Color Challenge 159 and the SugarPea Designs Clear Stamp - Mix It Up Challenge #76 are almost identical and I wanted to make something special for my nieces birthday, so when I saw this tutorial by Jennifer McGuire I thought they would combine really well. I began by cutting vellum and lavender cardstock, making the vellum 3/8” longer than the lavender and creasing it at the point that would make them the same length. Using my Cricut, I also cut a piece of white cardstock 2.75” x  7”, creasing it halfway down, and had a verse & frame drawn on. I also cut 2 thin frames of lavender that would fit around the folded card. Using the Picket Fence Peony Bouquet stamp set, I silver embossed a whole peony flower in the middle of the vellum. Next I embossed peony blooms around the rest of the page with Lindy’s Gang Magic Moon Pearl embossing powder. Once set, I colored in the central peony using Copic markers. Thanksgiving Fun

  I recently finished and mailed out my Thanksgiving cards. Whew! These were a lot of work! I had planned on using a different stamp, but didn’t get it in time, so went with the Hello Bluebird Leaf Play stamp and die set that I already had. I also used some pumpkins from a Recollections little Halloween stamp and die set.  Of course, I’ll be entering some challenges as well, namely: the  Simon Says: Happy Holidays challenge, the SugarPea Designs November Meant To Be Sent - Happy Holiday challenge, the Repeat Impressions DCC N420 ~ Pumpkins challenge, and The House That Stamps Built Inspiration Palette Challenge ~ N1820 . Starting with  5”x7” Kraft card bases, and 4.75”x6.75” black mats, I cut 4.5”x6.5” pieces of watercolor paper. I then used the spray starch and Brushos technique, with the orange and lemon colors, to create the backgrounds. I wanted it to be bright and cheerful.
