Fresh Blooms

With Mother’s Day coming up I needed to make a special card. I decided to use the Altenew Fresh Bloom layering set (a gift from a friend). I haven’t used it before although I’ve had it for a while. I ordered the coordinating die set recently.  Since I also needed to make a birthday card, I just switched colors for the second card. 

For the first card I used Catherine Pooler inks in Bellini, Polished, Coral Cabana, and Tutti Frutti.  The flower centers were stamped in Limoncello, Shea Butter, and Tiara. For all the leaves I used Sage, Eucalyptus, and Spruce. For the flowers for the second card I used Hot Tub, Aquatini, Skylight, and Mardi Gras.  Next I cut out the flowers and leaves with the coordinating dies. 


For the background I did some hot foiling. This was my first attempt with my new Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil machine.  I actually got it a few months ago but wasn’t able to use it since it didn’t fit on my Cuttlebug.  I had to get  a Spellbinders Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine for it to work. 


I tried using Deco Foil but that didn’t work. Fortunately the Glimmer came with 2 rolls of foil so I used some of that with the Spellbinders Essential Rectangles Hot Foil plate. Now I’m going to need to purchase some more colors of the right kind of foil!

The sentiments were die cut in gold cardstock.  The shadow for the Mother’s Day was cut from white cardstock.  

After gluing everything together I added some gold sequins.

Hydrangea Highlight

The second card I made today was specifically for the  Altenew March 2022 Inspiration Challenge , although I used Colorado Craft Company stamp for it. I had pulled out their Big Hydrangea stamp set to use a sentiment from it so just used the hydrangea part for this. Here is the inspiration picture from Altenew. I went with the colors for this card, as close as I could get, and did a sort of color blocking effect. I’ve seen it before on other cards and thought it looked nice and easy. I started by stamping the hydrangea in black ink on a 4-1/4” x 6” piece of white cardstock. After masking off the edges with low tack tape (I actually used blue painters tape) I masked off the bottom third of the center and blended on Distress Oxide Peeled Paint, masked off the middle portion and used DO Mustard Seed, and used DO Milled Lavender on the top. Candy Cane Deluxe

For the  Simon Says: Food and/or Drink challenge , one of the examples had a candy cane , so I thought I’d use some too. I just got a pine tree frame die & it would be perfect for that. I could make it look like a tree with candy canes & an ornament. Here’s how it turned out: I used my Cricut to cut the candy canes, ornament, some extra pine sprigs, & the Merry Christmas. The frame was die cut, and I used a scrap of green print cardstock for the backing. I embossed the Merry Christmas in black, then put everything together on a green card base. Thanks for stopping by! Father’s Day 2022

For Father’s Day this year I pretty much copied a card from   Norene Borys for Altenew . It involved some techniques I haven’t used before and I learned a lot. It actually took me 3 tries to get them to turn out good enough to send. Here’s mine: I haven’t done much with masking before, so this was a learning experience. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be.  I’m not much of an artist, so the extra leaves & the watercoloring aren’t as good as I’d like, and I didn’t add any sketching on the bird itself.
